    What are we, the Bulgarians?

    What are we, the Bulgarians?

What were we? We are one of the few people in the world who, when answering this question, fall into a slight difficulty. Were we Turks, Huns or Slavs? Our official history has often changed the answer to this question. We have an alliance with Germany, so we are Huns. We have an alliance with Russia, so we are Slavs. Fifty-two tribes and nationalities took part in the formation of a modern nation. Speaking in a joking manner, genetically we are one United States of America. But in the beginning we had one people.

A people who left us their name and the responsibility to bear it. The people of the Bulgarians. We are undoubtedly a civilized people, one of the most ancient peoples in the world. The Bulgarian people have both inspired respect and instilled terror in their enemies. But why is it still not known what we are, Turks, Huns or Slavs? We can now answer this question more confidently. The Proto-Bulgarians flourished in the region from the Caucasus to the Sea of Azov. Indo-European blood predominates in their genetic bank.

Great Bulgaria of Khan Kubrat is a large steppe empire. An empire means that there are many peoples under the ruler's rule. Why is Bulgaria's start so strong? An empire is strong when its ruler is very educated. Khan Kubrat lived in Constantinople, where he learned a lot about the world. He had five sons, and each of them tried to create a state.

Only Asparuh succeeded. What happened at Ongla, where Asparuh founded Danube Bulgaria?

Bulgarians are a special kind of Slavs - this is what a large-scale genetic study by the Institute of Microbiology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences claims. For two years, Bulgarian and Italian scientists have been studying blood samples of Bulgarians and comparing them with samples from other European peoples.

Blood samples of 855 Bulgarians were studied and compared with those of other European populations. "Special" type means that we are between Slavs and Mediterraneans, explained the director of the Institute of Microbiology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. According to him, the Bulgarian population is of Indo-European origin, not Turkic, as was previously believed.

The study has been published in American scientific journals and historians' comments are already expected.
