Did you know that Buckingham Palace is decorated with Bulgarian carpets? The factory that produces these unique carpets is located in a small Bulgarian town in the Rhodope Mountains. This factory employs weavers who weave carpets on the largest loom in all of Europe. It can weave carpets with an area of up to 140 square meters.

All carpets are hand-woven from 100% natural fibers and dyes. Making one carpet takes several months and the skills of dozens of skilled hands, resulting in remarkable creations.

Every year, the British royal family orders a carpet from this Bulgarian factory.

The most prestigious order was for a carpet for Queen Victoria's reception hall. One edge of the carpet bore the inscription "Made in Bulgaria" and this was fiercely discussed and attacked. Why? Because they believed that such a beautiful work of art could not be made in small Bulgaria.

Princes William and Harry also received carpets from the Orpheus Mountain in the Rhodope Mountains as wedding presents. The idea came from their father, Prince Charles, who ordered two carpets. But he had his own requirements – his concept was “opposites in their equality”. The carpets are in two main colours. One has red figures and a green base, while the other is arranged in reverse. This design is classic and traditional for Wales.

Rock legend Mick Jagger also owns Bulgarian carpets. During his divorce proceedings, he said he would give everything away, but wanted to keep the carpets.

Winston Churchill’s granddaughter also has two beautiful Bulgarian carpets. Former Prime Minister Tony Blair also ordered a carpet for the Downing Street reception room.

Bulgarian carpets adorn the most famous palaces in Europe.

This small factory also produced carpets for Alnwick Castle, where some scenes from Harry Potter were filmed.

Two rugs were also made for the George Washington Museum. An order for another, larger rug for one of the museum's halls is currently pending.
