The Madrid Masters has been underway for nearly a week now, and it's no coincidence that the organizers have named the second-largest court "Arancha Sanchez Vicario." The Spaniard was one of the most prominent figures in women's tennis in the 1990s, winning four Grand Slam titles and reaching number one in the world rankings.

However, life after tennis seems to be far from glamorous for the sports legend, who was known for her intelligent play on the court and a small number of unforced errors, which have, however, continued to increase in her decisions over the past two decades, which have currently brought her to an extremely unenviable situation.

Arancha Sánchez Vicario may have earned a whopping $17 million with her stellar performances on the WTA Tour, but a few years ago she was accused of conspiring with her ex-husband Josep Santacana to avoid paying a €7.5 million debt to a bank in Luxembourg. At the time, she intended to pay the debt, but her husband convinced her otherwise, and events took a turn for the worse.

According to the prosecutor's office, Arancha Sánchez "at the direction of her ex-husband and with the help of five other accomplices, hid assets to avoid paying taxes and debt to the bank in question."

The tennis player was facing a four-year prison sentence, but on September 12, 2023, at the hearing, she received a suspended sentence of two years in prison and a fine of €8,640, and the 4-time "major" champion cried in court.
