Bookstore The Libreria Alta Acqua second-hand bookstore is a unique landmark in Venice.
In the era of e-readers, immersing yourself in the world of a real paper book is a rare pleasure. In the Libreria Alta Acqua store, this pleasure will increase a hundredfold, since you will not see such a colorful and original place anywhere else.
The entrance to Libreria Alta Acqua looks quite ordinary: stands, inviting posters, simple advertising information. And inside, visitors will find an unforgettable sight. There are no traditional counters or display cases - the books are simply stacked in high piles, and entire labyrinths are built from them.

Books are found even in the most inappropriate places: barrels, bathtubs, gondolas. Walking through the halls, you involuntarily inhale the smell of damp paper, antiquity, because books from different periods from all over the world are collected here. There are books in various languages of the world, including Slavic. The owner of the store even allocated a whole room for publications in Slavic languages.
In addition to books, you can buy magazines, comics, postcards, posters, reproductions, and various souvenirs in Libreria Alta Acqua. From time to time, the water in the canal rises, flooding the lower floor. Apparently, that is why the books are stored in a bathtub, gondola, and other “waterproof” places to cause them the least damage. By the way, the phenomenon of seasonal tides is reflected in the name – Alta Acqua means high water.

The owner of the store, 72-year-old Frizzo Luigi, lives right above his store. He is accompanied by four cats, who, by the way, are often “on duty” in the store – they can be seen sleeping right on the stacks of books.
You can wander here for hours, looking at the unusual interiors, trying to read the spines of books, enjoying the feeling of the presence of different centuries. In the end, the enfilade of rooms will lead to the second, "spare" exit. It goes straight to the canal, and to use it, you need to be careful, especially when the water is rough.
The store leaves absolutely amazing feelings.

The deliberate carelessness of the design, or rather, the lack of any design, the warped doors, the unkemptness of the premises create a feeling of some kind of unreality of what is happening. And certainly, a visit to Libreria Alta Acqua will be remembered for a lifetime.
